Draft for legal review
Terms of Service
Last updated 11 October 2026
These terms are the agreement between you and OurNaija (operator’s registered business name to be added) for using OurNaija, the game at ournaija.app. By creating an account you agree to them. If you don’t agree, please don’t use OurNaija.
What OurNaija is
OurNaija is a fictional, multiplayer city game set in a Lagos-inspired world. You build a life, work, run businesses, rent and let homes, and take part in a made-up government. Everything in it is a game: places, people, prices, events and institutions are invented or changed for play.
Who can play
You must be 18 or older. We ask for your date of birth to check this and keep it private. One person may have one account; accounts are personal and can’t be sold, shared or transferred.
While OurNaija is invite only, you need a valid invite code to join. Each code works once. We may limit how many new accounts can be created at a time.
Your account
- Keep your password safe. You’re responsible for what happens on your account.
- Use a username that isn’t offensive or pretending to be someone else.
- Tell us at [email protected] if you think someone else is using your account.
V₦, the game’s money
The naira in OurNaija (shown as V₦) is game money. It has no real-world value, isn’t legal tender, can’t be withdrawn, cashed out, exchanged or transferred outside the game, and isn’t a deposit, investment or e-money. You don’t own V₦ or anything in the game; you have a personal licence to use them while you play.
We run the game’s economy and may change prices, wages, rents, taxes and other rules to keep it fair and fun. We won’t take your V₦ or items except as the game’s published rules say (for example, rent, robbery between players who opted in, eviction rules or enforcement of these terms).
Buying V₦
Where it’s available, you can buy V₦ packages with real money through our payment provider. The price and the V₦ you get are shown before you pay. Payment details are handled by the provider; we never see your full card details.
- Purchases are final once the V₦ is delivered, except where the law gives you a right to a refund or we decide to refund a mistake.
- If a payment is reversed or charged back, we remove the V₦ it bought. If you’ve already spent it, your account owes it and it’s taken from V₦ you get later.
- Buying V₦ never buys votes, election results, office or special powers.
Game rules you should know
- Rent and eviction. Homes cost weekly rent in V₦. Unpaid rent can lead to items being sold back, and then to a move into free Federal Housing until it’s paid.
- Player landlords. Tenancies between players follow the game’s rules on rent, deposits, notice and unpaid rent.
- Robbery and police. Robbery only happens between players who both switch it on in Settings, under limits shown in the game.
- Elections and government. Elections, offices and policies are fictional game roles and mechanics. One citizen, one vote.
- Businesses and jobs. Jobs, wages and businesses are game mechanics, not real job offers or business opportunities.
We may add, change or remove features at any time.
How to behave
Don’t:
- harass, threaten, bully or abuse other players, or post hateful, sexual or violent content;
- share someone’s personal information, or your own contact details for off-game deals;
- use bots, scripts, exploits or more than one account, or try to break or overload the game;
- buy, sell or trade accounts, V₦ or items for real money or anything outside the game;
- use OurNaija for real-world political campaigning, gambling, scams or anything illegal;
- pretend to be OurNaija staff or another player.
You can report players from their profile or a chat. We review reports and may warn, restrict, suspend or ban accounts, remove content, or reverse V₦ gained by breaking these terms. Serious cases may be reported to the authorities.
Messages and what you post
You’re responsible for what you write. You keep any rights you have in it, and you give us permission to store, show and moderate it to run the game. Messages aren’t end-to-end encrypted; staff may read reported messages to keep players safe.
Advertising in the game
Billboards in the world may show in-game content, fictional ads, or (in the future) paid adverts from real businesses, which will be labelled. A billboard doesn’t mean we endorse the advertiser, and advertisers are responsible for their own adverts.
Deleting your account
You can delete your account in Phone → Settings. You’re signed out at once; if you log in within 7 days, the deletion is cancelled. After 7 days your account is permanently anonymised as described in the Privacy Policy. Your V₦ and game items don’t transfer and aren’t refunded.
Our content
The game, its code, art, characters, names and design belong to OurNaija or our licensors. You may use them only to play OurNaija.
Availability and changes
We work to keep OurNaija running, but it may be unavailable at times, and game data may be reset or changed during testing (for example in the closed alpha). We don’t promise any result in the game: outcomes depend on rules, chance and other players.
Liability
OurNaija is provided as it is. As far as the law allows, we aren’t liable for indirect losses, lost profits or the loss of game money or items, and our total liability to you is limited to what you paid us in the 12 months before the claim. Nothing here limits rights you have that the law doesn’t allow us to limit.
If you break these terms and that causes us a loss or a claim, you’re responsible for it.
Changes to these terms
We may update these terms. If a change is important, we’ll tell you in the game before it applies. If you keep playing after it applies, you accept the new terms.
Law and disputes
These terms are governed by the laws of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. Please contact us first so we can try to fix any problem. If we can’t, the courts of Lagos State have jurisdiction. If a part of these terms can’t be enforced, the rest still applies. Not enforcing a term isn’t a waiver. These terms, the Privacy Policy and the Disclaimer are the whole agreement between us.
